“One of the major purposes of the exhibition, and the performances in each city that will amplify it, is to reveal the range of remarkable work that has been and continues to be produced in this quarter decade and to give full rein to the voices of those who have produced it. Many are female and women have been dominant in this arena which does not bring wit it the patriarchal history of sculpture or other more traditional artforms. Performance artists have in this time dealt with virtually every issue of personal and public significance which has made them for me such a rewarding and challenging group to work with.”
