A bird is in the library print project was produced during Barbara Campbell’s Printmaker-in-Residency period at Piscator Press, Fisher Library, University of Sydney in 2019. The artist had eight weeks at Piscator Press – a fully equipped letterpress print studio – to develop her prints including the artist book, Bird Voices. During the residency, Barbara posted prints around the library on a weekly basis, as public notices that firstly, A BIRD IS IN THE LIBRARY; secondly, specific birds (a tern, a hawk, a crow, a swan) were identified as being in the library; thirdly, that BIRD AUDIT IN PROGRESS; and fourthly, to simply WATCH FOR THE BIRDS. The residency concluded with an exhibition of all the prints she had made and a vocalised performance of the bird calls as described in her Bird Voices artist book.
